Pear Point

San Juan Island, WA

The Pear Point Residence was designed to maximize the benefits of a beautiful but difficult site. The client wanted a house that would showcase the magnificent views across Griffin Bay to Lopez Island and in a style that didn’t distract from the wild and natural setting.

D+A Studio responded by designing a home that was carefully nestled within the complex web of shoreline setbacks, steep grades, large trees, and a protected eagle’s habitat. D+A Studio worked with the natural slope of the land to create a multilevel home with a low profile. Floor to ceiling windows open up to the views while large roof overhangs protect from driving rains and intense summer sunlight. A palette of stone, wood, and glass allow the house to blend in with its surroundings.
